AVA, Mo. — An Ava man was arrested May 6 on a Douglas County Grand Jury indictment for failure to register as a sex offender, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Robert Martinez Jr., 60, of Ava, was arrested after an investigation by Deputy Nathan Long. Authorities reported the case began after it was discovered that Martinez had obtained a new phone number several months earlier and had not provided the updated number to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, as required by law.
Bond was set at $1,500 cash only.
“These laws are put in place regarding what registered sex offenders must comply with,” Sheriff Chris Degase said. “They know these laws and what is required of them, and we at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office hold them accountable to those laws and requirements.”
Martinez remains incarcerated in the Douglas County Jail.
All charges are allegations, and defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
