Initial interviews suggested that much of the early information was unsubstantiated or based on speculation. However, as the investigation progressed, interviews with the alleged victim and her family revealed previously unreported incidents of sexual contact and abuse. Due to the severity of the allegations and the high-ranking position of the accused, the Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from outside agencies to ensure an impartial process.

The Arkansas State Police and Homeland Security Investigations were brought into the investigation. Shortly thereafter, the Federal Bureau of Investigation contacted Sheriff Russell and Lt. Buchanan regarding a related report. All three agencies agreed to a coordinated and joint investigation.

As a result of the inquiry, Chief Scott Rose was arrested on June 2, 2025. He has been formally charged with the following: Sexual Assault in the Second Degree (Class B Felony), Sexual Indecency with a Child (Class D Felony), Endangering the Welfare of a Minor, First Degree (Class D Felony), and Knowingly Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor (Class A Misdemeanor).

“The Arkansas State Police, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation demonstrated exceptional professionalism and diligence during this investigation,” said Sheriff Russell. “Their collaborative efforts ensured that the case was handled thoroughly, impartially, and with the seriousness it deserves.”

Sheriff Russell emphasized the significance of interagency cooperation, especially in cases involving allegations of a sensitive nature and public trust. He also expressed gratitude for the integrity and shared commitment to justice shown by all involved agencies.

The investigation remains active, and authorities have stated that no additional information will be released at this time in order to preserve the integrity of the case and the privacy of the individuals involved.

Public Statement from Sheriff Shane Russell:

“I would like to take this opportunity to publicly extend my sincere gratitude to the Arkansas State Police, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for their exceptional professionalism, diligence, and unwavering commitment throughout the recent investigation conducted in Sharp County.

This case underscores the critical importance of interagency cooperation, especially when addressing allegations of such a serious and sensitive nature. The successful handling of this matter would not have been possible without the strength of those partnerships and the shared commitment to justice.”
