A 10-year-old girl from De Soto, Illinois, sustained minor injuries after being struck by a jet boat while swimming in the Current River near Deer Run on July 4, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred at 3:34 p.m., when a 2008 Legend jet boat, operated by an 18-year-old male from Van Buren, drifted over the swimmer. The girl was examined on scene by emergency personnel and did not require transport for further medical treatment.
The boat was not damaged in the incident, and the operator was reportedly not using a safety device at the time. The event was investigated by Trooper K.H. Hall, with assistance from Cpl. J.M. Heimsoth and Cpl. J.R. Roberts, all from Troop G.
