The Saturday, March 27 E-Waste Recycling Event had a huge turnout. So huge that the South Central Solid Waste District has scheduled another electronic waste collection day for 10:00 a.m. to noon April 10 at the West Plains Transfer Station (Materials Recycling Facility), 1853 Old Airport Rd. This is a first come, first serve event until the transport trucks are full. There will be double the space, two transport trucks instead of one, at the April 10th event. The District apologizes for those who had to be turned away on March 27th when the transport truck was at capacity.
Residents can bring laptops, desktops, tablets, servers, all in ones, cell phones, routers/hubs/switches, adapters, inkjet/toner cartridges, printers/scanners, copy machines, fax machines, landline phones, keyboards/mice, LCD/LED computer monitors, remote controls, cable/satellite boxes, dishes/receivers and equipment, stereos/speakers, VCRs/DVD players, blue ray players, DVRs, typewriters, all appliances, all batteries, all cords, all TVs, microwaves, refrigerant-containing items, computer monitors, and fluorescent bulbs. If it ran with a cord or a battery, you can bring it.
The South Central Solid Waste District and the City of West Plains is pleased to offer this service free of charge to residents of Howell, Shannon, Texas, Oregon, Ozark, Douglas, and Wright counties.
South Central Solid Waste District Coordinator Tegan Vaughn, who started last October, said “The collection of electronic waste had been on hold in our district in 2020 due to staffing changes and Covid-19,” she said. “We had an unexpected and overwhelming response at the March 27th event in West Plains. Thank you to everyone who chose to recycle their electronics instead of dumping them or putting them in the landfill. There are certainly a great number of conscientious residents in the area. We’ve seen the astonishing need for e-waste collections and our goal is to be able to continue them into the future.”
Funding for these collections comes from grants from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.
An Electronic Waste Collection event will also be held in Mansfield on May 1. For questions about these events, please contact the South Central Solid Waste District at 417-256-4226.
