Arkansas Responds to Spring Storms with Federal and State Aid

In the wake of severe storms and tornadoes that struck Arkansas on March 14–15, both federal and state leaders are mobilizing support for affected communities. Following President Donald Trump’s Major Disaster Declaration, which made Individual Assistance available to Arkansans impacted by the storms, Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders has announced additional state-level aid.

Governor Sanders confirmed that the State of Arkansas will provide Public Assistance to county and local governments facing cleanup and rebuilding costs. “Arkansas is grateful for President Trump’s support as we continue to rebuild from this spring’s devastating tornadoes,” she said. “The State of Arkansas is going to step up to give additional assistance to our counties and cities to help pay for some of the costs incurred during storm cleanup efforts.”

The Arkansas Division of Emergency Management (ADEM) will oversee the distribution of aid. Local governments will work with ADEM coordinators on projects based on a Preliminary Damage Assessment already submitted to FEMA. After verifying completed work and reviewing related documentation, the state will reimburse 35% of eligible expenses.
