An arrest warrant has been issued for Clyde Joseph Kapp after a stolen vehicle pursuit late Saturday night that posed serious danger to the public and law enforcement officers.
At approximately 11:49 PM, Sgt. Berkshire of the Shannon County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in Winona regarding a domestic-related incident and the theft of a pickup truck. The victim, who is in a relationship with Kapp, reported that he had taken her vehicle without consent after an earlier argument and had allegedly broken the rear window. She further stated that Kapp threatened to kill her and members of her family.
While Sgt. Berkshire was on scene, the stolen vehicle passed the residence at a high rate of speed. A pursuit was initiated, during which Kapp allegedly drove in excess of 110 mph on State Route 19, failed to stop at intersections, and crossed into oncoming lanes. He later turned onto a gravel road, continuing at speeds between 85 and 100 mph. The pursuit ended when the vehicle crashed, sustaining major front-end damage. Kapp fled on foot, prompting a multi-agency search that lasted several hours.
Kapp has been formally charged with Felony Aggravated Fleeing an Arrest, with bond set at $10,000 cash. Additional charges are expected pending prosecutorial review.
Sheriff’s officials expressed gratitude to the Reynolds County Sheriff’s Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, and Central Dispatch for their assistance during the incident and extended search efforts.
