Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey has announced a significant victory for Missouri landowners following the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) decision to terminate a $4.9 billion federal loan guarantee for the Grain Belt Express energy project.
Originally backed by the Biden Administration in late 2024, the proposed Grain Belt Express aimed to transport wind energy from Kansas to the East Coast by crossing through Missouri. The project drew fierce opposition from local landowners, farmers, and elected officials who argued it would condemn private land for limited local benefit.
Attorney General Bailey, a vocal critic of the project, hailed the DOE’s decision as a major win for rural Missourians.
Bailey credited President Trump and DOE Secretary Chris Wright for ending what he called a “taxpayer-funded boondoggle” and reaffirmed his commitment to fight any ongoing efforts by Invenergy, the company behind the project, to force the development on unwilling property owners.
The move marks a turning point in the long-running battle over the Grain Belt Express, which has faced criticism for its use of eminent domain and perceived lack of benefit to Missouri communities.
Attorney General Bailey emphasized that his office will continue to use all legal means necessary to defend Missouri’s farmland, families, and constitutional rights.
