Ava: Marler wins FFA award

The Missouri FFA Association recognized Colton William Marler of the Ava FFA Chapter as the Area 12 Star in Agribusiness at the 93rd Missouri FFA Convention. His parents are Clint and Shellie Marler of Oldfield. His advisors are John Branstetter and Brent Lakey.

Area Stars in Agribusiness are selected based upon outstanding achievement in work experience in an agricultural business as part of a student’s supervised agricultural experience program and active participation in FFA. Area 11 includes 21 chapters in the Southwest District.

MFA Inc., Columbia, sponsors the 16 area Star in Agribusiness awards as well as the State Star in Agribusiness Award.

Marler’s SAE involves beef cattle production, chestnut orchard production, diesel mechanics and working at a feed store. He was employed at Porter Farms, a beef cattle operation and chestnut orchard. He then worked at PDK Custom, working as a diesel mechanic. Marler now works at Heath and Sons Feed, where he bags feed and loads it for customers.

Marler currently serves as a chapter safety officer. He participated at state in grasslands evaluation career development event.

In addition to FFA, Marler participated in baseball, basketball and fishing team. He is a member of leadership crew. Outside of school, Marler is a member of Mount Olive Church.

After graduating high school, Marler’s plans include attending Midwest Technical Institute, Springfield, to study welding.

The Missouri FFA has 25,662 members representing 351 chapters. The national organization has more than 760,000 members representing 8,739 chapters in all 50 states and Puerto Rico.
