Bear-ly Spring Festival a Big Success

The Willow Springs Chamber of Commerce held the Inaugural Bear-ly Spring Festival on Saturday, April 11 in downtown Willow Springs, and it proved to be a heartwarming success as the community came together for a full day of entertainment, activities, and local pride, I spite of early weather challenges.

Rain showers delayed the festival’s opening ceremonies and required the first two scheduled performances to be moved indoors to the Star Theatre. Early attendance was lighter due to the weather; however, once the rain cleared and the sun came out, crowds steadily grew and the energy of the festival came to life.

The Inaugural Willow’s Got Talent competition was able to take place on the Main Stage as planned, drawing an enthusiastic crowd and showcasing the incredible talents of local performers. With improving conditions, all remaining entertainment was held outdoors, allowing attendees to enjoy the downtown atmosphere.

The Kid Zone was a standout success throughout the day, remaining busy from start to finish and it had a strong attendance for its first year. Kids and families enjoyed a variety of activities throughout the festival including face painting, Kidsight eye screenings, interactive games, Bear-ly Golf, and the ever-popular Bear-ly Cake Walk. One of the most memorable highlights was watching children light up with excitement as they won and selected their very own cakes.

Food vendors also experienced a successful day, with steady lines forming as the crowds increased. Several vendors sold out of their offerings, a statement to both the turnout and strong community support. Festival favorites included pie, coffee, and popcorn, and downtown Willow Springs remained lively with visitors right up until the festival concluded at 3:00 p.m.

While this was a brand-new event and weather presented some early challenges, the collaboration between the City of Willow Springs, the Willow Springs FBLA group, and the Chamber made the festival an overwhelming success. Events like this are only possible because of the strong working relationships within the community.

From early morning setup at 5:00 a.m. through teardown at 4:00 p.m., the City’s Street and Parks Departments worked tirelessly—setting tables and trash cans, coordinating road closures, and ensuring the safety of all attendees. The Electric Department responded immediately during a temporary power outage, including at the Main Stage, and restored service with minimal delay. The Fire Department also stepped in when needed, quickly drying the stage to ensure performer safety and help the event continue without interruption.

The Willow Springs FBLA group independently managed the Kid Zone throughout the day, navigating wind, rain, and large crowds with remarkable organization and enthusiasm. Their efforts helped create a fun, safe, and engaging space for children and families.

The Chamber extends its deepest appreciation to all City departments, volunteers, and community partners who contributed their time and effort. Words alone cannot fully express the gratitude for the dedication and teamwork displayed throughout the day.

“The community spirit in Willow Springs is truly something special,” Chamber Executive Director, Kim McCormick stated. “It’s because of that spirit and the willingness of so many to come together that events like this are possible—and why we are so proud to call Willow Springs home.”

The Bear-ly Spring Festival featured a wide range of family-friendly activities, live entertainment, and opportunities to support local businesses and organizations. Organizers are already looking ahead with excitement to future events.
