Bill To Help Military Community Headed To Governor Parson

Missouri – On May 7, 2024, the Missouri Legislature passed Senate Bill 912, a bill created to make the lives of our veterans easier. This bill will update the procedures and laws the military and veterans need to take upon returning to the United States, including the following:

  • A disabled veteran only needs to show the DMV a document from the VA with evidence of their disability to get a handicap placard. Currently, in Missouri, to get a placard you must have a document from the VA and additional doctor visits.
  • The cost for veterans to get a military specialty license would be covered. Veterans would no longer have to pay additional $15 fees to display their medal of honor on their license plate.
  • Provides a full state tax deduction for military and National Guard enlistment and reenlistment bonuses.
  • Award veterans who served on active duty or as National Guard members from 2001 to 2021.
  • Requires the Missouri Veterans Commission to work with the Department of Mental Health to find ways to fight veteran suicide.

This bill now heads to Governor Parson to get signed into law or vetoed.
