Two weeks ago, 70-year old Gainesville man, Kenny Pickett was involved in a rollover crash inside the dump truck he was driving down Hwy. 181 North of Gainesville.
According to Missouri State Highway Patrol Trpr. K.H Hogan, Pickett was driving the truck northbound on Hwy. 181 when the truck traveled off the right side of the road and overturned. Pickett was airlifted to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, Missouri following the crash.
Even though the call was not in their districts, Gainesville and Brixey-Rockbridge VFDs responded to the scene, in addition to both law enforcement and ambulance personnel. The volunteer first responders say they are thankful that Ozark County’s volunteer fire departments work cooperatively together in mutual aid, since all of the departments are shorthanded.
A post on the BRVFD Page says, “Please consider volunteering at your local fire department.” The average age of volunteers is 60. The department thereafter in the post pleads for younger members.
