From the Baxter County Sherriff’s Office:
The suspect in the homicide that occurred in Bull Shoals in Marion County earlier this morning has been found deceased near Lake Norfork in Baxter County.
Local law enforcement officers had been searching for the suspect, BROOKS DEAN DUE, 49 years old of Briarcliff since the crime was reported in Marion County. Baxter County officers began searching for DUE at and near his home in Briarcliff and the surrounding area. The Arkansas State Police deployed one of their helicopters to conduct a broader search of the area. From the air, officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of the vehicle BROOKS DUE was believed to have been driving. The vehicle was found on Shoal Creek Trail near Lake Norfork at approximately 2:28 PM. Officers continued searching the area, including the canine tracking team from the Arkansas Division of Correction – North Central Unit in Calico Rock. BROOKS DUE was found deceased by the canine team at approximately 3:28 PM in a wooded area approximately 70-75 yards off the road from Shoal Creek Trail on USACE Corp of Engineers property. He had committed suicide.
The body of the decedent was removed by the Baxter County Coroner’s Office.
Multiple law enforcement officers from several different agencies assisted throughout the day in the search for BROOKS DUE.
