Cabool, MO. – An old motel converted into an apartment building in Cabool, Missouri, caught fire early this morning and was reported to be a total loss.
Cabool Fire Chief Shaun Watson stated that crews responded to the fire at 2:02 a.m. and remained on the scene until after 8 a.m. While the origin of the fire is currently unknown, it is known to have spread to attic of the building, which allowed it to further spread throughout the structure, which contained 21 rooms.
Watson went on to state that while there were people inside the structure at the time of the fire, everyone was able to exit without injury thanks to working smoke detectors that woke up the residents.
This event serves as a good reminder to check the batteries in your smoke detectors as seasonal time changes occur.
