CAVE CITY, Ark. — As tornado recovery efforts continue throughout Cave City, Mayor Jonas Anderson has offered a heartfelt update on a symbol many residents have been asking about — the town’s iconic welcome sign.
In a recent public message, Mayor Anderson addressed growing questions about whether the storm-damaged sign would be repaired. His answer: “Absolutely.”
“We’ve been talking with companies, looking at ideas, and thinking about the future of this spot,” Anderson said. “It’s a critical part of the community. It’s truly iconic for this area and has been for a long time.”
The mayor acknowledged that the town has been prioritizing essential parts of the recovery process, such as cleanup, rebuilding homes, and supporting local businesses. While there were discussions about temporarily removing the damaged sign, Anderson ultimately chose to leave it standing — crumpled but still illuminated each night — as a symbol of Cave City’s resilience.
“That crumpled sign means something,” he said. “Damaged but still standing and shining bright each night, it is a loud and clear message to everyone that Cave City may be crumpled and dusty in spots, even for a while longer, but boy are we coming back!”
Anderson praised the strength and determination of homeowners and business owners who are already rebuilding and reinvesting in the community. He asked for continued patience from residents as plans are finalized to restore the sign “in a way that’s even better than it was before.”
“When we do, it will be yet another great marker along this road to true recovery — a true #CaveCityComeback,” Anderson said.
