MOUNTAIN HOME, AR – The Baxter County Library, in partnership with the City of Norfork and the Baxter County Early Literacy Project, invites the community to celebrate the installation of a new Little Free Library (LFL) box and the relocation of another. Join us on Wednesday, December 11, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, at the Norfork Community Center (49 City Hall Circle) for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a fun-filled afternoon promoting early literacy and community engagement.
The new LFL box will be located at the City of Norfork Walking Trail, and the relocated box will now serve the Vero Hall Memorial Park Playground in Norfork, providing 24/7 access to books for children.
Event Highlights:
- Ribbon Cutting Ceremony: Celebrate the addition of these Little Free Libraries to the community at the Norfork Youth Center.
- Pop-Up Library Booth: Sign up for a Baxter County Library card and check out books on-site.
- Early Literacy Project Booth: Families can participate in Read-on-the-Spot activities and sign children up for the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a program that delivers free books to children ages 0-5 years.
- Hotdogs and Refreshments: Provided by the City of Norfork and Anstaff Bank.
The two Little Free Libraries are the result of a collaborative effort. The students of the Norfork High School Shop Class, under the guidance of their teacher Mr. Pendergrass, worked to refurbish one existing LFL box and fully assembled the other from a kit, utilizing grant funding from the Arkansas State Library. Their craftsmanship ensures these boxes will provide 24/7 access to books for years to come.
Everyone is invited to attend and bring friends and family to explore the new LFL locations and learn more about the resources available through the Baxter County Library. In the event of inclement weather, the celebration will take place indoors at the Norfork Community Center.
