The National Weather Service in Springfield is warning residents that hot and humid conditions will persist through at least Wednesday, July 30, with potentially dangerous heat index values continuing across the region.
According to the latest briefing issued at 3:17 a.m. on July 28, daily high temperatures in the mid to upper 90s are expected to produce heat index values ranging from 100 to 114 degrees. Some areas off the Ozark Plateau could experience heat indices nearing 110 degrees at times.
Overnight lows will remain in the 70s, offering little relief from the daytime heat. A low chance (10–40%) of isolated afternoon or early evening storms is possible through the weekend, but most locations are expected to stay dry.
A widespread Heat Advisory remains in effect, with Extreme Heat Warnings and Watches issued for several surrounding counties.
Residents are urged to take precautions to stay cool and hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and check on vulnerable individuals. The next scheduled weather briefing is expected by 6 a.m. Tuesday.
