Douglas Co. Sheriff promotes officers

Ava, Mo. – On June 15, 2021, Douglas County Sheriff Chris Degase promoted officers and others in the Douglas County Sheriff Department.

Sheriff Degase and Lieutenant Wallace

Corporal Taylor Wallace was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant thus making him second in command at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Lieutenant Wallace is one of two K-9 handlers within the department and has held the rank of Corporal for several years.

Detectives Roberts and Long with Sheriff Degase

Deputy Kobby Roberts and Deputy Nathan Long was promoted to the rank of Detective. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is in the process of implementing a separate Investigations Unit. Detective Roberts has been the evidence officer the past several years and has been attending specialized training over the last several months preparing for this transition. Detective Long has also been attending specialized training over the last several months preparing for the transition. Most recently, Detective Long just completed the Voice Stress Test course and is a certified operator of the CVSA machine.

Sheriff Degase and Corporal Nelson

Deputy James Nelson was promoted to the rank of Corporal. Corporal Nelson will be supervising the patrol Deputies in their duties. Corporal Nelson has a relative shot amount of time in law enforcement; however, he has rapidly grown into a proactive Deputy and proven leader. Corporal Nelson is also one of the Departments K-9 Handlers.

Sheriff Degase and Corrections Corporal Timpe

Corrections Officer Shakiya Timpe was promoted to Corporal within the Corrections Division of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. She has been with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in the Corrections Division since the new facility opened. Corporal Timpe has exhibited exemplary decision-making skill and has the necessary work and leadership skill to assist the current Jail Administrator.

Dispatcher Starra Price, not pictured, has been promoted to Lead Dispatcher. She has been with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for twelve years. She is our warrant clerk and since has been entering warrants we have not received any negative marks on our MULES audit since that time. Starra has persistence and pays attention to detail.
