Douglas Co. Sheriff’s Office is raising funds for Coats for Kids

Ava, MO – As the weather takes a turn this week thoughts wander towards falling leaves, changing seasons, and cooler weather. This in turn leads to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office preparing for Coats for Kids.

Every year the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office contacts the counselors/administrators of the Ava R-1 School District, Skyline Schools, and Plainview Schools regarding the need for coats. This is done only by size and whether the coat is for a boy or girl at each school. The Sheriff’s Office then partners with Walmart in order to purchase coats for those children in need of a warm winter coat. The coats are then sorted and delivered to the area schools. In the past, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office have also secured coats for children that have come into emergency placement with Family Services and to families that have experienced displacement and loss due to fire.

In previous years the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has raised money through a special event and donations in order to provide each and every child in our community a coat that is in need of one. This year will be a little different. Due to COVID and the restrictions and risks posed to community gathering, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has decided against having a large fund raiser this year. We do have a small reserve brought over from the last several years, but will be relying on Douglas County and surrounding community donations in order to be able to purchase coats for children in need in the Douglas County area.

If you would like to contribute to this great cause, then please mail your donations to:
