Today, the Shannon County Sheriff’s Office Deputies and K9, Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) Agent B. Hadley, and Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) MSgt. B. Foster and I conducted an investigation and search for two adult male subjects who had gone on a camping and cave-exploring trip.
The individuals were expected to make contact with family this morning but failed to do so. Concerned family members contacted authorities to report them overdue, and a coordinated search effort was immediately launched.
After approximately three hours, the subjects were successfully located. MDC Feral Hog Elimination Specialist E. Nichols deployed a thermal drone to assist in the search, while a Deputy and K9 team entered the woods on foot. The use of coordinated ground and aerial resources played a key role in bringing the search to a safe conclusion.
Both individuals were found safe.
With frigid temperatures in our area, I strongly encourage anyone participating in outdoor activities to create a detailed safety plan, share it with a responsible person, and stick to that plan. Preparation and communication can make all the difference in an emergency.
I would like to thank Mercy EMS, Central Dispatch, MDC, MSHP, and the Deputies of the Shannon County Sheriff’s Office. This was a job well done and a great example of interagency cooperation.
Your Sheriff,
Steven Hogan
