FEMA Public Assistance Grants Support Arkansas Communities After Severe Storms

Communities across Arkansas are receiving vital support through FEMA’s Public Assistance (PA) Program following the severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding that struck the state between April 2 and April 22, 2025.

Under Major Disaster Declarations DR-4865-AR and DR-4873-AR, 36 Arkansas counties have been designated eligible for Public Assistance funding. This aid supports state and local governments, as well as qualifying private nonprofit organizations—including hospitals, schools, and houses of worship—with the resources needed to recover and rebuild.

FEMA’s Public Assistance grants cover both Emergency Work and Permanent Work:

  • Emergency Work (Debris Removal and Emergency Protective Measures) must be completed within six months of the May 21 declaration, with a deadline of November 21, 2025.
  • Permanent Work (repair and restoration of roads, public buildings, utilities, parks, and more) must be completed within 18 months, by November 21, 2026.

Eligible applicants must submit a Request for Public Assistance by Friday, June 20. Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact their county emergency manager to begin the process.

FEMA typically covers 75% of eligible costs, with the remaining 25% covered by the applicant. In certain cases, the federal cost share may be increased.
