A five vehicle crash took place five miles north of Ava on Highway 5 Friday afternoon leaving one 37-year-old Ava woman with serious injuries.
Traffic had stopped to allow a vehicle to turn left off of Highway 5 when a Chevrolet Silverado failed to slow down crashing into the back of a 2014 Jeep Patriot sending it into the back of a 2017 Ram 2500 and then off the road. The Silverado then hit a 2008 Chevrolet HHR before coming to rest. In attempts to avoid the crash a 2018 GMC Canyon traveling southbound towards the crash left the roadway and struck a tree.

The driver of the Jeep Patriot was taken to Cox South in Springfield for treatment of serious injuries. No other injuries were reported by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
