Houston Man Facing Assault and Kidnapping Charges

On May 13th the Houston Police Department responded to a domestic in progress at the Piney Inn in Houston.  According to the probable cause statement the officer made contact with the victim who stated Eric Caswell, the accused, was threatening her with a knife and was not allowing her to leave the apartment.  The victim also told the officer that Eric was still in the apartment and could still possibly be armed with the big kitchen knife.  The officer made contact with Caswell who denied having a knife and making threats to the victim. He stated that he did not want to harm himself or other people.  While speaking, Caswell’s behavior was erratic, he accused the victim of slapping him over some cereal but there was no evidence in way of markings or bruises.  In gathering more information from the victim, she stated that Eric was hitting his head on the cabinet, he then grabbed the knife and threatened to kill her then threatened to kill himself if she left.  The victim was able to leave the apartment but he was following her until law enforcement arrived.  Caswell was placed into hand restraints and then admitted to having the knife and attempting to cut himself.  The knife was located under his pillow and the blade measured 9 inches with a total length of 14 inches.  Caswell is being charged with Third degree domestic assault, Unlawful use of a weapon and 3rd Degree Kidnapping.
