Howell County Sheriff’s Department Conducted Compliance Checks Halloween Night

A note from Howell County Sheriff Matt Roberts:

On Halloween night, I joined Howell County Deputies in conducting sex offender compliance checks on 28 of the 147 registered sex offenders ensuring compliance with Halloween guidelines. Our intention was to make contact with as many sex offenders as possible but due to higher-than-normal call volume we were only able to check approximately 20% of the offenders.

Our efforts were concentrated on offenders living in the more populated areas of Howell County where trick-or-treaters were likely to be in the area.

Out of those 28 that were checked, only 2 were found to be non-compliant in some manner. 3 were found not to be at home or did not answer their door. Follow up investigations as to their whereabouts are being conducted.

Reports on the 2 offenders found not to be compliant will be forwarded to the Howell County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

The Howell County Sheriff’s Office and I are committed to providing safety to those we serve to the best of our abilities. I want to remind our community that Halloween should not be the only time to be diligent of dangers in the community. Frequently checking your address in the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Sex Offender registry map is a great way to remain aware of those moving into your area.
