Howell County Sheriff’s Office Responds to Armed, Intoxicated Suspect Threatening Family Members

From the Howell County Sherriff’s Office:

On July 11, 2025, at approximately 6:11 PM, Howell County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a potentially dangerous situation involving an armed and intoxicated suspect threatening family members at a residence on County Road 8240 in West Plains, Missouri.
 
Deputy Timothy W. Gordon, with assistance from Deputy Dylan Vice, made contact with the suspect, identified as Marilynn Kay Silva, a 39-year-old female. Silva was visibly intoxicated, and admitted to recent methamphetamine use. Upon further investigation, deputies determined that Silva had threatened her father and other individuals at the scene with a double-barrel shotgun, which she had obtained from a family member under duress.
 
Witnesses at the scene reported that Marilynn Silva had been chasing her father while armed and had pointed the firearm at him and others while making threats to shoot. They expressed significant fear for their safety, recounting prior incidents of violence and property destruction associated with Silva and her father.
 
Marilynn Kay Silva was arrested on multiple felony charges and booked into the Howell County Jail on a 24-hour hold. A probable cause statement was submitted to the Howell County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for formal charges, and Marilynn Kay Silva was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm- Felony C and Unlawful Use of a Weapon- Subsection 4 Exhibiting Felony E. She was released on $25,000.00 Bond.
 
The Howell County Sheriff’s Office would like to commend the victims for their cooperation during this frightening event. The Sheriff’s Office takes threats of violence very seriously and encourage victims to seek protection orders when appropriate. The safety of the community remains our top priority.
