Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) recently received an $8,500 check from the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) as part of the Community Forestry Cost-Share Program, a statewide initiative aimed at supporting tree care and conservation on public lands.
Urban Forester Tyler Trantham presented the check to MSU-WP officials, who used the funds to trim 30 trees, remove four unhealthy trees, and plant eight new ones across campus. The funding also supported the university’s Arbor Day activities, promoting tree awareness among students, faculty, and staff.
The program, formerly known as the Tree Resource Improvement and Maintenance (TRIM) Grant Program, is a competitive cost-share initiative administered by local MDC offices. It reimburses government entities, schools, and non-profit organizations for approved tree management projects.
Assisting with the project at MSU-WP were Director of Physical Plant Services Ron Hensley, Groundskeeper David York, and Procurement Specialist Misty Davis.
The Community Forestry Cost-Share Program is open to municipalities, public schools, and park departments. For more information, contact the local MDC office at 417-256-7161.
