Missouri Commission Approves $13.3 Billion Transportation Improvement Plan

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission has officially approved the Fiscal Year 2026–2030 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), marking one of the most ambitious infrastructure plans in state history. The five-year plan outlines a record $13.3 billion in transportation investments spanning roads, bridges, airports, and rail crossings.

Funded through a combination of federal dollars, a state motor fuel tax increase, and a General Revenue boost approved by the Missouri General Assembly and signed by Governor Mike Kehoe, the plan emphasizes key upgrades to Interstates 70 and 44 and addresses the condition of low-volume minor roads across the state.

Of the total funding, $9.5 billion is designated for contractor awards in road and bridge construction — averaging $1.9 billion annually.

The STIP includes detailed information on improvements across Missouri’s 33,814 miles of highways and more than 10,000 bridges and culverts. It also highlights non-highway transportation enhancements and outlines three years of planned operations and maintenance activities.

The final STIP, following public review and 73 submitted comments, is now available online at modot.org.
