MoDOT Urges Caution as Missouri Enters Busiest Construction Season Yet

As Memorial Day weekend approaches, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is urging drivers to exercise extra caution amid what is expected to be the busiest road construction season in state history.

With more work zones than ever across Missouri’s highways, MoDOT is calling on motorists to plan ahead, stay alert, and drive responsibly. The reminder comes as holiday travel begins to surge—often accompanied by an increase in traffic crashes. In 2024, 10 people died and 83 others were seriously injured on Missouri roads during the Memorial Day holiday period.

MoDOT stresses the importance of key safety habits: wearing seat belts, driving sober, putting phones away, and obeying speed limits, particularly in work zones. Drivers can find up-to-date information on road closures and delays using MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map at traveler.modot.org. Some major work zones with permanent lane closures will remain active over the holiday weekend.
