The Mountain Home Public Schools Board of Education held its regular meeting Thursday, covering a range of reports, policy updates, and preparations for the upcoming school year.
Reports included updates on district finances, enrollment (noted at 3,733 students), facilities, technology, and academics. A special presentation by Corinne Hiser and Summer Sasser addressed suicide prevention. Constituent Hap Myers also spoke during the meeting.
The Board elected new officers: Jason Schmeski as President, Scott Booth as Vice President, and Mollie Morgan as Secretary.
Action items approved included policy revisions to sections 3, 4, and 8, a clean audit, adjustments to federal program assurances, and budget updates. The Board also approved the purchase of new math materials and a managed endpoint solution, along with bids for the GBCCA roof replacement and the 2025–2026 district handbooks.
During board discussion, Mr. Booth thanked Hap Myers for his constructive input and encouraged public engagement. Mrs. Morgan emphasized her commitment to student safety and urged community members to share concerns and ideas.
Superintendent updates highlighted summer maintenance work and ongoing student registration. Due to recent legislative changes, school board elections will now take place during even years in the preferential primary, with three seats up for election in March.
Constituents will be able to sign up to speak at board meetings beginning next month, with a three-minute time limit. Additional upcoming events include a facilities work session on June 25 and board FOIA training on June 23, both scheduled at 5:30 p.m. at the courthouse.
