Officials from Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) highlighted the impact of the university’s Counseling Center during a presentation to the Board of Governors at their annual meeting on June 13.
Vice Chancellor of Student Services Dr. Angela Totty and Director of Counseling Services Lauren Willis shared that the center, launched in fall 2023, was created in direct response to student feedback requesting increased access to mental health resources. Since its opening, student surveys indicate that the center is making a meaningful difference, with many students reporting improvements in their mental health symptoms.
Several students spoke directly to board members, offering heartfelt testimonials about how the Counseling Center provided critical support during some of the most difficult times in their lives.
The Counseling Center update was one of several presentations delivered during the meeting. Board members also heard from Faculty Senate Chairs Tresa Ryan and Frank Priest, Staff Senate Chairs Trish Smith and Trevor Cressman, and Student Government Association leaders Max Bittle and Michell Robles.
