From the City of West Plains:
Every year we get the same question: “When is trick-or-treating in West Plains?” And every year the answer is the same: Halloween is always October 31. The city doesn’t schedule or set trick-or-treat hours.
For those planning to hit the streets in search of sweets, the West Plains Police Department recommends trick-or-treating between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Halloween night.
Halloween Safety Tips:
– Cross streets at corners, use crosswalks, and look left-right-left before stepping out (zombies may wander, but you should walk wisely).
– Keep phones tucked away and eyes up (avoid tripping over witches, werewolves, or the occasional decorative tombstone).
– Make eye contact with drivers before crossing (not all mortals see ghosts in the dark).
– Stick to sidewalks when possible. If not, walk facing traffic and watch for turning or backing-up vehicles.
– Children under 12 should have an adult with them, and older kids should stick to familiar, well-lit neighborhoods (safety in numbers, even for vampires).
Costume & Visibility Safety:
– Add reflective tape or glow sticks to costumes so drivers can spot little ghouls easily.
– Choose face paint or makeup over masks that can block vision.
– Make sure costumes fit properly to avoid those spooky stumbles.
Driving Safety:
– Slow down in neighborhoods and be extra cautious. Excited trick-or-treaters may appear from nowhere.
WPPD officers will be out patrolling to keep things safe (and maybe showing off a few costumes of their own).
Let’s keep Halloween safe, sweet, and full of treats — not tricks!
