The National Weather Service in Springfield is warning the public to watch for patches of black ice that could be form tonight and the next few nights as snow melts and refreezes during the night.
NWS Meteorologist Ben Price warns that it could form along any roadway, and that drivers should proceed slowly and with caution.

To avoid black ice, the NWS suggests a reduction in speed, avoiding the use of cruise control, increase your follow distance, and minimize braking or turning. If you hit black ice, remain calm, ease off the gas, and keep the steering wheel straight.
