Ava, MO. – A man from Douglas County has been taken in on a variety of felony charges after exchanging fire with law enforcement officers.
At around 6pm on Wednesday, March 4th, Deputies with the Doulgas County Sheriff’s Office went to serve a warrant for Edward Bowman, 54 of Ava on a charge of forgery.
Upon making contact with the officers, Bowman retreated into the residence, shined a flashlight at an officer, and fired rounds from a firearm, leading to return fire.
After a period of silence, communication with Bowman was reestablished, who claimed to have been shot in the leg.
After being convinced to leave the residence, Bowman was taken into custody without further incident, and is now facing three 1st Degree Assault chrages of a special victim, three charges of Armed Criminal Action, and one charge of Resisting Arrest.
Bowman was found without a visible gunshot wound, instead with an abrasion on the knee.
A second subject was arrested for interfering with the arrest and information will be released upon formal charges.
