Ozark National Scenic Riverways to Host Two Special Managed Deer Hunts This Fall

Ozark National Scenic Riverways has announced plans to host two special managed deer hunts at Big Spring later this year, offering unique opportunities for youth and mobility-impaired veterans.

The Youth Hunt is scheduled for December 6–7, while the Exceptional Warrior Mobility-Impaired Hunt will take place October 25–26. Each event will allow ten participants, selected through a random drawing.

To ensure public safety during the hunts, certain areas of the Big Spring section will be closed:

  • October 24–26 for the Exceptional Warrior Hunt
  • December 5–7 for the Youth Hunt

Temporary closures will include Big Spring Campground, Peavine Pavilion, all hiking trails in the Big Spring area, and Peavine Road (during the October hunt only). However, Big Spring and the boat ramp will remain open and accessible via Highway 103.

The Exceptional Warrior Hunt is conducted in partnership with several organizations, including the Foundation for Exceptional Warriors (The FEW), which provides funding for participants’ hunting and lodging expenses. The FEW serves veterans who exemplify honor, valor, and sacrifice.
