West Plains, MO. – Ozarks Healthcare, or OzH, has added a new program to their roster of services in order to better serve the community at large. This is called the SANE program, or Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners, which is made up of specially trained physicians and nurses who have extensive training in identifying and treating symptoms of sexual abuse. This includes medical treatment, gathering of forensic evidence, tests and treatments, and to serve as a liaison between the victim and law enforcement.
In serendipitous timing, April is also Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and a proclamation was recently made at Ozarks Healthcare which involved Mayor Mike Topliff officially designated the month of awareness for the town of West Plains.
To go along with both of these pieces of information, Ozarks Healthcare is challenging the public to lend a hand by staying aware of sexual assault and it’s effects, as well as encouraging survivors to seek help.
Karlee Marvin, the Forensics Program Coordinator, additionally stepped into the studio to talk to us about the SANE program, how individuals can get involved, and how they can get into contact.
