Scam Aimed at Inmates Families Going on in Baxter County

From the Baxter County Sheriff’s Department:

Just a Heads Up about a SCAM. Spouses and relatives of people who have been recently booked into the Baxter County Detention Center have been receiving phone calls from a scammer pretending to be a supervisor with the Sheriff’s Office. The inmate is one being held without bond. The scammer tries to convince the spouse or relative that the inmate can be released on an ankle monitor by paying a fee of several hundred dollars. Unfortunately at least one person has already fallen victim to this scam and has sustained a significant monetary loss.

Factual and current information concerning an inmate’s current bond status can only be obtained by calling the Detention Center directly (870) 425-7000 and speaking with the appropriate personnel. Nobody from the Detention Center is going to call a spouse or relative of an inmate and make an offer of alternate bond arrangements. This is a fraudulent scam. Do NOT provide any information or agree to make any payments. Don’t become a victim of this scam.
