Sharp County Residents Warned of Law Enforcement Impersonation Scam

SHARP COUNTY, Ark. — The Sharp County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a phone scam in which callers falsely claim to be law enforcement officers and demand immediate payment for unpaid fines.

According to Sheriff Shane Russell, the Sheriff’s Office has received reports of callers impersonating Sharp County officers and threatening jail time if payment is not made immediately. Officials confirmed the calls are fraudulent.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that law enforcement agencies do not contact individuals by phone to demand payment for fines or fees. Residents who receive such calls are advised not to provide personal or financial information and to hang up immediately.

Officials also encouraged residents to share the warning with family members, particularly older adults, who may be more vulnerable to scam attempts.

Anyone who believes they may have been contacted by scammers or who has shared information is encouraged to report the incident to local law enforcement.
