On April 26, 2026, at approximately 1353 hours, Deputy Jonathan Harley responded to a residence east of Ava regarding a Douglas County Citizens who returned home and found a male subject sitting in a lawn chair inside their residence.
Deputy Harley arrived and identified the suspect as Justin Ball, age 40, of Stockton. It was obvious that Ball was under the influence of a controlled substance. Upon speaking with the homeowners, it was determined that when they returned home and entered their residence with their 12-year-old grandson, they located Ball sitting in a chair in the living room, participating in sexual misconduct.
Ball admitted to using methamphetamine earlier in the day. The investigation revealed that Ball had broken a doorknob to enter the residence.
Ball was placed on a 24 hr. hold at the Douglas County Jail. A warrant was issued for Burglary 1st degree and sexual misconduct, resulting in a NO BOND warrant being issued.
Sheriff Degase would like to thank MSHP Trooper Plumber, who arrived on scene to assist Deputy Harley.
Sheriff Degase stated, “Enough talk about methamphetamine being a victimless crime. Methamphetamine is unequivocally not a victimless crime; it inflicts harm that extends well beyond the individual user, as in this case. . The impact of someone breaking into your home is profoundly devastating. It not only violates your personal sanctuary but also obliterates your sense of safety and trust in a space that should be a refuge.”
