The West Plains R-VII School District is proud to officially announce that Mrs. Virginia Uphaus, Principal of West Plains Elementary School, has accepted the position of Director of Operations for the 2026–2027 school year. This position is the newly titled version of the former Director of Human Resources and Student Services role.
“Mrs. Uphaus represents the very best of the Zizzer tradition,” said Board President Cindy Tyree. “She grew up in this district, began her teaching career here, and has continued to serve our students and staff with dedication and heart for many years. Her deep connection to our community and firsthand understanding of what it means to be a Zizzer make her an exceptional fit for this role.”
Mrs. Virginia Uphaus brings nearly two decades of experience within the West Plains R-VII School District. She has served as Principal of West Plains Elementary School since 2024 and previously held the role of Assistant Principal from 2021–2024. Prior to her work in administration, she spent 12 years as a classroom teacher at West Plains Elementary School and began her career in the district as a substitute teacher in 2007. She holds a Master of Education in Administration from William Woods University and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Missouri State University.
“Mrs. Uphaus has made a tremendous impact at West Plains Elementary School throughout her many years of service,” said Superintendent Dr. Wesley Davis. “Her leadership, care for students, and commitment to excellence have helped shape a strong and supportive school culture. I’m excited to see her extend that same positive influence districtwide in her new position as Director of Operations.”
The Director of Operations oversees essential services and programs that keep the district running smoothly, supporting students, staff, and daily operations across all schools. This includes areas such as human resources, student services, facilities, and other key administrative functions.
