West Plains, MO. – The West Plains City Council met in regular session last night for their March meeting. Topics of the meeting included utility rate increases, Tourism Grant consents, and an expansion of the city limits.
The meeting began with an opportunity for citizens to offer comments on the proposed utility rate increases. No community members approached the podium to offer any comment to the council. In regards to the Capitol Improvement Plan, which the increases to utility rates stem from, the C.E.O. of Missouri Public Utility Alliance, John Twitty, did offer comments and approval of the five-year improvement plan that was created.
The utility rate increases, Ordinances 4702 to 4705, passed unanimously.
Two Community Grant Recommendations were approved. $20,000 was approved for the upcoming Wayward Son Bulls, Broncs, & Bands on April 1 & 2 at the West Plains Civic Center. This will help to attract talented bullriding stars to West Plains. $5,000 was approved for the West Plains Council on the Arts (WPCA). Kathleen Morrissey of the WPCA spoke to the council on the upcoming Story Tour of Downtown West Plains. She was praised by Mayor Pro Tem Josh Cotter, saying her “passion is exactly what we need here”.
The City Council passed Ordinance 4698, annexing a portion of Highway 63 and Business Route 63 that extends to Creamery Road.
