A full slate of activities is planned for all ages at the West Plains Public Library during its Summer Reading Program, which returns Tuesday, June 1 after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are so excited to be able to offer this Program again to our community,” said Director of Library Services Shawnie Kennedy. “We have a lot of really unique events planned, and we believe there will be something for everybody.”
The Program officially begins with a “kick off carnival” on Tuesday, June 1, and will run through the end of July.
Here is a rundown of events and activities for this Summer:
Ages 3-12
- Tuesday, June 1 – Kick-off Carnival;
- Tuesdays – Storytime and crafts;
- Thursdays – Presenters and activities;
- Thursday, July 29 – End of Summer Reading Program party and prizes.
Ages 13-18
- Fridays – Teen Program Days. Teens can earn book bucks for reading milestones and program participation.
- Friday, July 30 – End of Summer Reading Program party and prizes.
Boys and Girls Club
- Wednesdays – Summer Reading Program for Club members.
- Wednesday, July 28 – End of Summer Reading Program prizes.
Adults
- Every other Wednesday – Adult Summer Reading Program with prizes for events and reading milestones.
According to the American Library Association, those who participate in summer reading programs are more likely to develop life-long reading habits, allows children to keep their reading skills up, and generates interest in the library and books.
