The West Plains High School Zizzers competed Friday in the Class 4 State Track and Field Championships. The boys team finished 6th overall and girls placed 11th.
Riley Simpson became the first Zizzer distance runner in school history to complete the triple crown by winning the state championship in the 3200 meter run, 1600 meter run, and 800 meter run.
Emily Howell became the First Lady Zizzer to win a state championship in a throwing event, wining the discus competition.
Zizzers earning all-state by event with top-8 finishes.
Girls 4 x 800 meter relay- Jayna Gunter, Jordan Tollenaar, Jordan Kantola, Brayden Kantola – 7th
Boys 4 x 200 meter relay- Aiden Brigman,Josh Leazer, Connor Lair- Heston Miller – 5th
Girls 1600 meter run- Jordan Kantola – 5th
Girls 4 x 100 meter relay- Megan McCrackin, Katie Bowers, Raigen King, Emily Howell – 3rd
Girls 800 meter run- Brayden Kantola – 4th
Boys Triple jump- Josh Leazer – 8th
“Both teams competed extremely well and concluded a great season,” said Coach Dixon. “It was exciting to see history made in our program this year with Riley and Emily’s state championships and breaking 3 school records this year. This years teams not only carried on the great Zizzer tradition but added to it. Thankful to our administration and all of the parent and community support.”
