(West Plains, MO)The City of West Plains Sanitation Department has announced that it will no longer accept glass in its recycling program due to changes in the recycling market. Officials say no vendors are currently taking recycled glass materials, making it unsustainable to continue collection.
Despite the change, the department emphasizes that a wide range of recycling options are still available to residents. Items that remain accepted include:
-
Cardboard
-
Aluminum cans
-
Tin and steel cans
-
#1 plastics (water and soda bottles)
-
#2 plastics (milk jugs)
-
#2 colored plastics (laundry detergent and bleach bottles)
-
Newspapers, magazines, and catalogs
-
Junk mail
-
Cereal boxes and other paperboard
City officials encourage residents to continue recycling these materials as a way to reduce waste and protect the environment.
The Sanitation Department thanked the community for its support and understanding as it adjusts to industry changes.
