Deputy Brenton Fine wrote that he and Captain Berkshire arrived at the residence around 6:42 p.m. on March 31 to take Daniel Brandon Dooley into custody. After Dooley requested a shirt and shoes, deputies entered his bedroom, where Berkshire “noticed in plain view a pistol in a holster sitting on top of the dresser.” The firearm was seized due to Dooley’s status as a convicted felon. The pistol “had a round in the chamber as well as 6 rounds in the magazine,” the report states.

While checking the home, Fine documented trash, dirty dishes, old food, and several knives and a hatchet accessible within reach of a child staying in the residence. Photographs were taken to document the conditions.

After Dooley was transported to the Shannon County Jail, staff discovered two small baggies containing a white powdery residue in his clothing. According to the statement, “the residue from both baggies tested positive for methamphetamine.”

Prosecutors are seeking charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a controlled substance, introduction of a controlled substance into a jail, and abuse or neglect of a child.
