Woman Arrested for Fraud; Attempted to Conceal Face as a Man

Van Buren, MO. – The Carter County Sheriff’s Office recently arrested a Ripley County woman for fraud after attempting to disguise herself as a man and use a stolen debit card from a purse she pilfered.

On May 9th, a purse was reported stolen from a resturant in Van Buren, and $60 was removed from the victims bank account. Investigation quickly led to a review of the camera footage of the ATM that was used, showing suspect Mercedes Jaco with a drawn-on moustache and goatee, sunglasses and a hat. She was caught on camera withdrawing the money.

Jaco was found and later taken into custody on the 15th, and is now facing charges felony Stealing $750 or More and felony Fraudulent use of a Credit/Debit Device.
