Dorothy Mary (Larwinski) Mantel was born on February 28, 1930, in Royalton, Illinois, to Mike and Mary Larwinski. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, at Mercy St. Francis Hospital in Mountain View, Missouri, surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy married Robert R. Mantel on January 24, 1959, in Chicago, Illinois. Together, they built a life filled with love and hard work, raising three children.
She is survived by her children, Tina (Steven) Howerton of Lebanon, MO; Theresa (Robert) Weber of Leavenworth, KS; and Robert (Shelly) Mantel of Mountain View, MO. Dorothy was a proud grandmother to ten grandchildren: Justin (Danielle) Howerton, Ryan (Kimberly) Howerton, Chad (Madison) Howerton, Andrew Weber, Jarod (Carla) Weber, Maggie (Matthew) Seeman, Jessica (Joe) Ege, Jaclyn Mantel, Amanda Mantel, and Robert Mantel III. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren, Eloise, Gabreille, Joselyn, and Melanie Howerton, Clayton Ege, and, arriving soon, August Howerton.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert “Bob” Mantel; her parents, Mike and Mary Larwinski; her sister, Helen Cox; and brothers, Chester “Karchie” Larwinski and Mike Larwinski.
Known affectionately as “Dotty,” Dorothy had a passion for sewing, especially quilting, and was an avid bowler who participated in multiple leagues well into her 80s. She particularly loved attending state tournaments, especially those near a casino. Dorothy also worked tirelessly alongside Bob on the family ranch, where one of her favorite tasks was cutting brush with the tractor. She found joy in simple pleasures, keeping the bird feeders full, watching hummingbirds, and especially, spending time with family. She loved playing cards during family gatherings and enjoyed every opportunity to support her children and grandchildren.
Dorothy took great pride in her Polish heritage, cherishing the traditions, values, and foods passed down through generations: her strong work ethic, deep faith, and love of family.
Dorothy’s strength, warmth, and devotion to her family will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered.
