Elizabeth Annetta Haney, age 92 of Seymour, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 11, 2026, in Glenwood Rehabilitation and Health Center, Seymour, with family present.
Elizabeth was born on September 24, 1933, in Independence, Missouri, the daughter of Clarence and Wilma (Lewright) Kemmerer. She graduated from Northeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1951. She married Charles Haney, her loving husband of 60 years, on May 22, 1953.
Elizabeth was proud of her start in the business world while working for Rothchild’s Clothing Store in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. She began working there as a cashier during the summer when she was 15 and continued working weekends and some nights during the school year. When she was a senior, she began working as a bookkeeper for Rothchild’s while enrolled in the COE program, which allowed her to attend school for one hour a day and work for the remainder of the day. She liked to tell family members that she was the only one working in the store that was trained on some of the “modern” office equipment that was used.
Charles and Elizabeth moved to their farm near the old Pee Wee store, east of Seymour, in 1962. Charles originally operated a dairy, but later raised beef cattle. Elizabeth was a proud homemaker, but she also worked as a bookkeeper for the farm and for Charles’ businesses when he installed chain link fence as a contractor for Sears for many years, White Top Gas Company, and Haney Implement Company, a farm implement business they owned for about 20 years.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Seymour. She participated in WMU and worked in the kitchen as a member of the Bereavement Committee for many years. She also did volunteer work for New Tribes Mission and supported Choices Pregnancy Center in Marshfield, Missouri. She was singing in the choir at age 16 when she felt the need to go forward at the end of the service to accept Jesus as Christ and Savior and was later baptized. This past summer she felt the need to be assured of her salvation and went forward at a Wednesday night service at First Baptist to publicly proclaim Jesus as her Savior. You are never too old to be saved!
Elizabeth was proud of her family and was devoted to their care. She was at her happiest planning and preparing meals at her home for family gatherings during holidays and special occasions. She rejoiced at the need for additional table space to accommodate the growing number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren through the years.
She enjoyed traveling with Charles on the many trips he won as a top Massey-Ferguson dealer. They were able to go to Hawaii, California, Florida, and on a Caribbean cruise, among the locales. After retirement, they loved to travel in their 5th wheel camper, especially in Colorado, and staying at Treasure Lake in Branson. Much to the surprise of their sons, she also convinced Charles to take up square-dancing for a time, where they enjoyed the fellowship of other couples.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Charles; her son, Gary; her son, Dan; and her sister, Marion Bauer.
Survivors include her son, Ken (Debby) of Marshfield, Missouri; daughters-in-law Tammy (Gary, dc’d) of Seymour, Missouri, and Cindy (Dan, dc’d) of Booneville, Arkansas; grandchildren, Jeff, Jason, Matthew, Joshua, Elizabeth, and Andrew Haney; and great-grandchildren, Brayden, Layla, Landon, Jailyn, Hudson, Haidyn, Weston, Finton, Chamberlain, Adelyn, and Leona Haney, Jonah, Clara Grace, and David Justice.
Memorial contributions may be made to Choices Pregnancy Center, 1350 Spur Drive Ste. 160, Marshfield, MO 65706.
