While living in Fort Cobb, Jewell met her first husband, Richard “ED” Edward Horn, and during this union, she was blessed with 5 children: Richard Edward II, Sherri Lynn, Jewelia Ann, Barbara Jean, and Rebecca Sue.

Jewell met Ted Sylvester in Chickasha, Oklahoma, where he was attending college, and later, they moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado. The family spent their time as live-in tourists, enjoying camping and admiring the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. They surrounded themselves with many friends, artists, craftsmen, and musicians.

During a short separation, Jewell moved her children to Peace Valley, Missouri. She convinced Ted to check out the beauty of the Ozarks, and he, of course, fell in love with Missouri. They were married at the Church of Brethren in Peace Valley. They went through some rough and rocky times, but their love for each other always endured.

Jewell was a courageous and confident soul who was not afraid to try anything she set her mind to do. A constant student of life. She had various jobs and occupations, among which while in Colorado a reading program assistant at a local community college, a waitress, and a foreign car mechanic. While in Missouri, she worked for Aids Hardware in West Plains, Missouri, as a salesperson. She was later employed with the city of Mountain View parks department and was instrumental and influential in many improvements to the recreation and beautification of the city and its parks. Jewell’s dream of operating her own business came to be with The Lady Bug Lunch Wagon and later the opening of the Rock Bottom Flea Market. Along with her best friend Le Tousaint, she was able to help many people who had fallen on hard times by donating clothes, furniture, and whatever they needed. Jewell was a kind, caring, hard-headed individual, sharing her life and passion for life with many people.

Jewell is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Jones; stepfather, R.L Jones; mother and father-in-law, Erna and Frank Sylvester; two brothers-in-law, Don Sylvester and L.J. Gleason; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
