Jimmy Nolan Counts, 80, of Hardy, Arkansas passed away May 1, 2025 at his home. He was born in Alicia, Arkansas on October 8, 1944 to Grover and Freda Kissenger Counts – one of their eleven children. Jimmy served his country eight years in the United States Navy; he was a member of the Airborne Early Warning Squadron One and did a tour in Vietnam where he was a meteorologist. He was awarded a Navy Air Medal for meritorious achievement in aerial flight while participating in combat operations in Southeast Asia.
He became a rural mail carrier and a farmer and was a member of the local VFW and Optimist Club; he was active in the Community of Christ church. Attending activities of his grandchildren was a passion he thoroughly enjoyed. Jimmy Counts was THE BEST NEIGHBOR who cared for the well-being of others.
Survivors include his children, Brian (Lisa) Counts of Maumelle, Arkansas and Amy (Mitchell) Luman of Bryan, Texas; five grandchildren: Owen, Avery, Libby, Jaxon, and Nolan; a sister, Mickey and a brother, Larry; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives, and good friends.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jason; his wife, Diane Chapman Counts in 2014, and eight siblings.
Visitation of family and friends will be Friday, May 9, beginning at noon in the chapel of Tri-County Funeral Home at 1540 Hwy. 412 in Highland, Arkansas. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Don House officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Walker Cemetery east of Hardy on U.S. Hwy. 63.
Pallbearers will include Blaine Counts, Ty Casey, Byron Rikard, Richard Knight, Chad Stark, Jaxon and Nolan Luman, and Owen Counts .
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and the Arkansas Sheriff’s Boys Ranch.
