CARDINALS PLACE SIX ON INJURED LIST & ACTIVATE BRAD MILLER TEAM INTENDS TO MAKE ADDITIONAL TRANSACTIONS ON WEDNESDAY

  1. LOUIS, MO., August 4, 2020 – The St. Louis Cardinals announced today that the club activated infielder Brad Miller (right ankle bursitis) from the 10-Day Injured List, and placed catcher Yadier Molina, infielders Paul DeJong and Edmundo Sosa, and pitchers Carlos Martínez, Junior Fernández, and Kodi Whitley on the Injured List. Further changes to the major league roster will occur once cleared by Major League Baseball to resume play on Friday, August 7. There will be additional players added to the 60-man player pool as players complete their in-take testing.

Regarding staffing, minor league hitting coordinator Russ Steinhorn will transfer from the Alternate Training Site in Springfield to the Cardinals Major League coaching staff, while assistant minor league hitting coordinator Joey Hawkins will be added to the Alternate Training coaching staff once his in-take testing is completed. In the interim, Cardinals Manager of Player Development and Performance Emily Wiebe will assist the Alternate Training Site in Springfield.

St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina announced on social media that he was one of the Cardinals to have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The All-Star catcher wrote, “Good morning, I am saddened to have tested positive for COVID-19, even after following the prevention recommendations. I’ll do everything in my power to get back ASAP for Cardinals fans, St. Louis City and my teammates.”

The Cardinals announced that in addition to Molina, Paul DeJong, Edmundo Sosa, Rangel Ravelo, Junior Fernandez and Kodi Whitley tested positive. A seventh player appears to have not given permission to the team to release his name.

St. Louis played just three games this season and are hoping to return to action Friday hosting the Chicago Cubs.
