Cleveand, OH– The St. Louis Cardinals opened up a three-game series with the Cleveland Guardians on Friday night and sent their staff ace, Sonny Gray, to the mound.
The complete game shoutout took only 89 pitches and he struck out 11 Guardian batters along the way. The lone hit came off the bat of Nolan Jones in the fifth inning a scorching single to the right side. This was gray’s first complete game since August 2015 and the catcher for that game was the Guardian manager Steven Vogt.
On the offensive side of the slate the Cardinals Pedro Pages and Alec Burleson each homered and Nolan Arenado added 2 RBI to help the Cardinals get back in the win column 5-0 over Cleveland.
